BeautyCon BFF: Winter 2016

I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again, I’m Forever 25 and a certified late bloomer. Being clueless in the beauty department, I figured the best way to learn and find new product is to sign up for subscription boxes. So I did. The most recent subscription I’ve signed up for is with BeautyCon BFF box.

What is BeautyCon?

BeautyCon is a community of creators redefining beauty. They’re mission is to bring fans, brands, and creators together in on one place. BeautyCon present us with $100+ worth of products from our favorite beauty influencers from all outlet of social media. It’s a seasonal subscription, meaning four box in a year. Only $29 with free shipping for one season or $99 for a whole year. Winter box (the one I got) is from beauty influencer Bethany Mota.

What’s in it? Let’s find out.

Product #1: Nail Polish in Marshmallow by Essie

What: A cloudy sheer off-white that seemed perfect for a French manicure.

Tip & How to: “To get a perfect French tip without guide tape, begin arch on one side of the nail, using a quick sweeping motion. Repeat from opposite side of nail.”

Personal Opinion: I love doing my nails. I even have a bag full of nail polishes but it’s all from Avon since they always have sales. Then whenever I get my nails done at a nail place, they have other brand of nail polish. So, this is my first time ever trying Essie. With all the hypes about it, I have really high expectation. Plus, it isn’t cheap at all. I was definitely excited. However, my excitement was cut short. Color wise, it’s nice soft white. It really is as what they claimed it to be. However, it’s too watery that by the time I finished painting my nails, it dripped to the side and bubbles have already formed on it. Plus, it took forever (70 minutes) to fully dry. Which by that time, I’ve already messed it up so many times.

Name the Price: The one I got in the box is .46 oz. with a price of $8.50.

Product #2: Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Devotion by Revlon

What: It’s a lightweight, high definition matte color. Moisturizing, velvety feel. 100% wax-free in gel formula.

Personal Opinion: I think this is a new one from Revlon… or maybe it’s just new to me. Heck, everything’s new to me anyway. The first thing I noticed on this lipcolor is the scent. It has a strong vanilla scent mixed with something tropical like mango. I like the mango scent but not much with Vanilla. The color is just perfect for my olive skin tone with a little bit of feathering but still alright. I would love to love it if only the Vanilla scent isn’t as overwhelming.

Name the Price: Full size is .2 oz. with a price of $8.99.

Product #3: Root Amp Lifting Spray Mousse by Garnier Fructis

What: Root Amp is a target action spray mousse with extreme volumizing power that builds all day mega-lift at the roots with no sticky weighdown.

Tip & How to: Shake well before use. Divide damp, clean hair into multiple sections. Lift each section, hold can 4-6 inches away from head, and spray into damp roots in shorts bursts. Repeat until full head is covered, then work through hair. For extra volume, blow dry head upside down after application.

Personal Opinion: Now, Garnier Fructis is something that I know. I’ve used its shampoo line since High school, because my mom loves the smell. Root Amp lifting spray mousse is something new to me though. Background on my hair, it’s straight, colored, and a bit limp, no volume whatsoever. I like the smell of this mousse. Well, I like the smell of all their product. However, it didn’t give my limp hair any volume at all. Instead, it left my hair crunchy and scalp itchy. I’ve tried it twice, just to make sure I’m doing it as I’m supposed to, which I am… but still have the same result. I’ll probably try it again the third time and I’ll update my opinion if anything changes.

Name the Price: I got in the box a 5 oz. with a price of $7.

Product #4: Hydrating Toner by Murad

What: An alcohol-free toner that replenishes lost moisture to refresh skin and prepare if for treatment.

Tip & How to: Apply evenly over clean face, neck, and chest. Follow with a Murad step two treatment.

Personal Opinion: I have a combination skin. Normal on some areas, dry on some and then oily on the T-zone. This toner is lightweight, very refreshing and relaxing on my face, especially on the dry area like cheeks. After use, it left my skin smooth and smelling yummy. Yes, yummy but not overwhelming. I have a feeling that I’ll be buying a full size in the near future. (P.S. I can’t stop touching my face, since it’s so smooth and silky now after using the Toner.)

Name the Price: Full size in 6 oz. is $28, the one I got in the box is .5 oz. with an estimate price of $2.33.

Product #5: Hand Food Hydrating Hand Cream by Soap & Glory

What: A non-greasy hydrating hand cream that contains shea butter, macadamia oil, and marshmallow. Scented with their original pink fragrance

Tip & How to: Apply as often as you want to soften, smooth, and soothe dry, chapped, or otherwise hampered hands.

Personal Opinion: I’ve received a Soap & Glory body scrub as a gift before and I love the smell. It sorts of remind me of my childhood. Nostalgic. The moment I used this hand cream, I liked it as well. The scent isn’t strong nor was it too girl. Got the idea that this specific hand cream can be used by both man and woman.

Name the Price: The one I got in the box is 1.69 oz. with an estimate price of $8.

Product #6: Sequin Minnie Mouse Ears by Disney

Personal Opinion: Totally adorable. Though a bit flimsy and the band itself is too loose for my head. Yes, I have a small head but with a BIG face and thick neck. Imagine that for a moment. LoL! But I would definitely wear this Ears when I get to visit Disneyland one of this days. For now, it’s stash in my drawer a long with my other headbands.

Name the Price: The one I got in the box is with an estimate price of $15.oo.

Product #7: The Falsies Push Up Mascara by Maybelline

What: It has push up cup brush, a revolutionary cup shaped bristles. Scoops and lifts from the root to add bold volume. Ophthalmologist tested and contact lens safe.

Personal Opinion: The consistency is very thick. However the plastic bristles doesn’t do much to my lashes. I have short fine lashes and I was hoping this would add a bit volume. But no, it just gave me panda eyes. I would say this mascara may work for someone who already have long lashes.

Name the Price: In the box is .33 oz. with a price of $8.

Product #8: Highlighter in Stole the Show by ColourPop

What: A cool-toned pink champagne with silver highlights.

Personal Opinion: It’s a light beige with a hint of pink and a metallic sheen. But I think it’s more metallic than pink. It’s lightly creamy and goes on the skin smoothly and blends well. I love it, I just have to learn how to use it. (It’s time to YouTube a How-to video.)

Name the Price: The one I got in the box is .15 oz. with an estimate price of $8.

Product #9: $20 Gift Card off $50 Purchase by Nike

Personal Opinion: This gift card is valid until April 2016, but could only be redeemed at Nike.com/Women. Which mean, I can’t buy anything for the hubby. Sucks for him but Yey for me. LoL!

Name the Price: $20 gift card.

Product #10: $10 Gift card off $50 Purchase by Aeropostale

Personal Opinion: Bethany Mota patnered with Aerospostale with this gift card. I can only use it in a store, so no online shopping for me. It’s valid until April of this year, which is good. I have enough time to shop around and see what I want.

Name the Price: $10 gift card

Product #11: Gold Digger Notebook by BeautyCon

Personal Opinion: It isn’t a collage ruled notebook but it’ll do for my journaling. Beautiful, eye-catching gold cover with “Goal Digger” bold statement in front. Love it!

Name the Price: With an estimate price of $8.

Heart it: ❤❤❤❤❤

Product #12: Disney Minnie Mouse Tattoo by Tattoo Junkee Cosmetics

Personal Opinion: There are two sheets included in the package. The bows are pretty cute. It’s a wrist, arm, and neck tattoos. I’ve tried two of them on my wrist and I’d say, it doesn’t look like kid’s temporary tattoo. The quality and the color palette they’ve used; it is high end. So far, I’m on the fourth day, it isn’t fading yet. I already have high hopes that it’ll actually last seven to ten days, like they claim.

Name the Price: $16 at Kohls.

Overall Opinion for this Month:

Beautycon Bff: Winter Box

I may not love all the items in the box, the ones that I did, are enough to satisfy the value of its subscription price. Everything in the box are of good quality. Nice curated box, thumbs up to Bethany Mota. The subscription is $29 per season. For this box, the total value is $119. Wow, that’s a saving of $90. That’s a lot. Now, I’m even more excited to see what the other season have for us.
